Acne & Rosacea

Both acne and rosacea are common causes of redness and spots on the face.
Although Acne is often a skin condition of teenagers, it is by no means limited to this age group, and many people will experience acne in their later years.
Acne and Rosacea skin treatment is a cosmetic procedure designed to control the symptoms and restore the skin’s balance.
Acne explained
Cutibacterium acnes (formerly known as Propionibacterium acnes or P. acnes) is a bacterium that lives naturally on everyone’s skin.
When a pore becomes clogged with dead skin and sebum (oil), these bacteria multiply rapidly in the oxygen-free environment.
This overgrowth triggers an immune response, causing the redness, swelling, and pus associated with a pimple.

Treatments We Offer for Acne & Rosacea
Acne can vary from a few blackheads to deep cysts. Raquel Menezes will recommend the best treatment according to each case.
We offer three treatments to target Acne and Rosacea. LED Light, Acid and IPL (Intense Pulsed Light).
- LED (Light-Emitting Diode) light therapy is recommended to treat acne and rosacea.
- For Acne, the treatment is recommended primarily when the condition is mild to moderate, or as a complementary therapy to boost the results of topical treatments and chemical peels.
For Rosacea, the treatment is also commonly recommended as a gentle, non-invasive, and effective way to manage symptoms, particularly to reduce redness and inflammation.
- For Acne, the treatment is recommended primarily when the condition is mild to moderate, or as a complementary therapy to boost the results of topical treatments and chemical peels.
- Chemical peels are generally recommended to treat acne in two main scenarios: active breakouts (to unclog pores and kill bacteria) and the aftermath of acne (to treat scars and dark spots). The treatment is also recommended for mild forms of rosacea.
- IPL (Intense Pulsed Light)IPL: Unlike a laser, which uses a single wavelength of light, IPL uses a broad spectrum of light filters, allowing it to address multiple acne-related concerns simultaneously.
- IPL is recommended to treat acne primarily when the acne is mild to moderate, involves a significant amount of inflammation and redness, or when conventional topical and oral treatments have proven ineffective or undesirable.
- IPL is also widely and effectively recommended for the treatment of rosacea, particularly for persistent facial redness, flushing, and visible blood vessels (telangiectasias).
Each treatment offers multiple benefits, and a consultation with Raquel Menezes is required to determine the best treatment and the best outcome.

Treating Acne with IPL
For patients who want faster or more dramatic results than creams can offer, we recommend IPL (Intense Pulsed Light).
Benefits:
- Redness Reduction: Specifically targets the broken capillaries and diffuse redness that define rosacea.
- Bacteria Reduction: The laser’s heat helps kill P. acnes bacteria deep in the pores.
- Texture & Scarring: Stimulates collagen, helping smooth out acne scars and reduce pore size over time.
- No Downtime: Laser Genesis is often called a “lunchtime procedure” because you leave looking a bit pink but can go right back to work.
How long do results last?
Results are long-lasting but not permanent. A series of 4–6 treatments is usually required to clear the skin.
Afterwards, results can last 6–12 months, but maintenance sessions are usually needed once or twice a year to keep redness at bay.
Treating Rosacea with IPL
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is widely recommended and considered a “gold standard” treatment for the vascular (blood vessel-related) symptoms of rosacea.
It is particularly effective at treating the primary signs of rosacea, which are:
- Persistent Redness (Erythema): The general background redness of the face.
- Visible Blood Vessels (Telangiectasias): The fine, spider-like red lines that appear on the cheeks and nose.
- Flushing: Reducing the frequency and intensity of sudden, temporary facial redness.
